Creative expression makes the world a better place
Hi I’m Sarah! I’m the artist behind BraveDaughterStudio.
Growing up in a small village in rural Germany, I always loved creating, whether that involved paints, paper, glue, wood, sticks, stones, food, snow … anything that could be used to make stuff. I loved trying things, seeing how the material behaved, what worked and what didn’t; playful exploration.
But as I got older, I became more serious, ambitious, and the perfectionism around me established strong roots in myself. This was not all bad, it taught me how to be result-oriented, pay attention to detail and to just get things done. And I love that! I love lists, ticking things off, project-managing and making sure everything is on track. That is what I do in my day job at a publishing house in London and it’s so satisfying to see things come together and be a beautiful finished product.
But … there is still all that creativity in me. I have continued to try various creative things, all in an attempt to find what works for me. From drawing to sewing to tambour embroidery to calligraphy. And then I found Surface Pattern Design. When I design patterns it’s all back to the original process of trying, exploring, seeing what works. It’s so freeing to not have a plan and to see what comes out of me if I just let things happen.
My goal with BraveDaughterStudio is to spread beauty and joy, creativity and encouragement, to inspire others and make the world a better place.
